What to Wear

 I subscribe to a blog "is this really my life". This fun lady blogs about lots of different things that are an interesting read to me most of the time. I recently got my blog update from her in my email (what I love about subscribing to blogs, cause I don't have to remember where the blog is, or book mark it or forget about it all together, cause each post comes to me!)
Her topic this day was on a friend of hers who was preparing for family photos and the process she used. I thought it was a perfect thing to share.
Even though my family sessions are few and far between, I still offer them to my established clients and to new clients if my calendar has room. This little process I am sharing would work well for preparing for your family session, AND also if you are preparing for your kids to be photographed, or any other session you need to coordinate clothing for.

So here is what she blogged about:

for a successfully color-coordinated family photo, you need:

1)an impressive collection of looks combined into a one-sheet and printed for every family member

2) A serious color storyboard complete with trimmed and layered paint swatches in colors matching your clothing sheet

 3) some notes on the back of the color storyboard to make sure everyone’s on the same page

 This process is obviously a VERY thoughtful preparation, with a great deal of investment of time. Not everyone has to go through all the steps, but even a mental preparation with some notes and color scheme in mind when shopping or looking for clothing your family has that will make for a good portrait is essential. You are in fact investing time and money into your portraits, why would you not put a good bit of effort into how you will look individually, and as a family?
